The name
liakela means “Rachel”.. at least as far as I can recall it does. In Polynesian. If you’re Polynesian, feel free to not to correct me, as I’ll just develop a complex about the whole thing. At any rate, I’ve taken ‘Liakela’ on as my online persona, though enough people know me as Rachel anyway to make the point of anonymity moot at best.
And that’s who I am. I’m Rachel, one of many. When I was younger, I really disliked my name. I’d sign my diary, ‘Enna Lechar’ because it seemed much more interesting than plain, old Rachel-Anne.
I enjoy writing, but it often takes quite a bit of self-prodding to get me to share regularly, and more than superficially, what is going on with me internally. External.. no problem. Can’t hide what’s right there for the world to see. I feel it takes more bravery than I possess to consistently lay oneself open to constructive and not-so-constructive criticism. Perhaps the longer I keep this journal, the more open I will become.
